With the official launch of the new Toyota Fortuner and Legender Neo Drive 48V variants in India, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has taken a big step toward manufacturing SUVs that are more environmentally friendly and efficient. To improve fuel economy and lower emissions without sacrificing performance, the new vehicles come with a 48-volt mild hybrid system with the existing 2.8-liter diesel engine.
The Toyota Fortuner and Legender Neo Drive now have a 2.8-liter, 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that works with a 48-volt system that includes a lithium-ion battery and a starting generator that is built into the belt. According to the company, this hybrid aid makes low-end acceleration smoother, operation quieter, and efficiency better.
Speaking on the introduction of the Fortuner & Legender Neo Drive 48V variants, Mr. Varinder Wadhwa, Vice President, Sales-Service-Used Car Business, said, “As the SUV market in India grows steadily, customers are seeking advanced features and differentiated styling. The 2.8-liter, 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that produces 204 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque is still present in both versions. A 48V mild-hybrid system that consists of a lithium-ion battery and a belt-integrated starter generator offers better fuel efficiency, quieter operation, and smoother acceleration. To increase overall efficiency, the system also has an auto start-stop feature and regenerative braking.
The Neo Drive variants have plenty of new features designed to improve security and convenience:
